Man In OverallsNathan grew up in Tallahassee, where his love of gardening was kindled as a child working in the garden with his mom, Sue. He attended the Magnolia School as a kindergartner and 1st grader, then again as a 4th and 5th grader. Post high school, he spent four years at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC, where he studied community organizing and social movements.

During Nathan’s last two years at Warren Wilson, he was required to spend 15 hours per week taking care of an edible landscape around one of the college dorms—and his love of gardening strengthened.

Back in Tallahassee, Nathan started engaging in food gardening social entrepreneurship. He launched his own business, Tallahassee Food Gardens, and is busy creating raised vegetable gardens, planting fruit trees and herb gardens, supporting community gardens, hosting gardening workshops, and volunteering and fundraising for local non-profits.

Nathan remembers the Magnolia School as a place that “teaches kids incredible academics while they think they are just playing games.” His fondest memories of the Magnolia School involve the pack of boys he ran with while a student, people who hold a special place in his heart to this day.
