[singlepic id=7 w=320 h=240 float=right]Jasper Brey, a Magnolia School graduate and senior at the Maclay School, has been selected as a candidate for the U.S. Department of Education’s 2012 Presidential Scholars program.
Application for the prestigious program is by invitation only, and Jasper was selected to apply from a pool of more than 3.2 million graduating seniors. The 3,000 students selected will be narrowed down to about 500 in April. Students will be judged on their academic performance, essays, letters of recommendation, and participation in extracurricular activities. The final pool of scholars will be selected in June.
Jasper, an accomplished musician, is involved in Tallahassee Youth Orchestra and is a member of the Acoustic Traveling Ensemble, which will be playing in March at the 2012 Suwannee Springfest in Live Oak. He is also a member of the Maclay Brain Bowl and Science Bowl teams.
Jasper’s ties to The Magnolia School are many. Younger brother Max will graduate this year, and mother Paige, who previously served as the school’s director, is now the middle school language arts teacher.
