Our “Fishes” theme is drawing to an end. These last two weeks were devoted to fishing (with the field trip to the Joe Budd Aquatic Center) and fish habitats. The elementary school enjoyed the visits of Jennifer Schellinger and Chelsea Wagner, two graduate students from the FSU Biology Department and the FSU Coastal and Marine Lab. Jennifer talked about sponges and Chelsea about natural and artificial habitats. The middle school enjoyed the visit of Dr. Huettel, from the FSU Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, who made a presentation on oil, oil spills, and detergent.
This week, the elementary school focuses on the deep sea, while the middle school, during their end-of-the-year camping trip, does some coastal cleaning at St George Island, and visits the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve.
